There’s something about wearing too much of one thing that I
find very appealing. Some matchy-matchy stuff drives me nuts, but when it comes to clothing, I tend to
believe that more is more. A
leopard vest with leopard shoes? Yep. A
butterfly purse
to match a butterfly shirt? Duh.
Two floral prints at once? Obviously.
Heart-shaped glasses and a heart-pattern dress? Is there any other way to wear such an
outfit? I mean, if you’re going to do it, you may as well
do it.
Each time I wear something with over-the-top matching, there’s
a part of me that can see Miranda Priestly from
The Devil Wears Prada giving me a withering look. I can hear her sighing
with sarcasm dripping from each word, “You paired a
daisy headband with a daisy dress. Groundbreaking.” But that’s the genius behind it. Matching
accessories and garments in such a literal, kitschy way is so wrong, so decidedly
un-clever, that it becomes right.
I was super-excited to jump on the ‘Canadian Tuxedo’ bandwagon
by combining my denim top with a denim skirt and denim shoes. My only question
was where to wear my all-denim getup to. A night out with some of my blogger
friends to celebrate the launch of a new
Jord wooden watch series provided the
perfect opportunity. I can always count on my girls to take and appreciate
fashion risks. “Dope outfit!” one remarked. Take that, Miranda.

The unique collar was one of the reasons I bought the denim top. |

Budding photographer Ruby took this shot. It's not half bad! |
